On a bitterly cold and windy Monday evening the year 7 football team hosted their first league fixture against Stratford.
Southam knew that the weather conditions were going to play a big part in the game and started well. There was lots of good inter play with Tobias, Logan and Liam linking up well without creating any clear cut opportunities. The defensive pairing of Luke and Sam helped to start attacks and kept the Stratford attack at bay. Unfortunately Southam conceded the first goal and Stratford led 1-0 at half time.
As soon as the second half started Southam were on the front foot and soon capitalised after a good pass from Harrison who found Tobias who drilled a shot into the far corner to level the scores. Southam continued to look for the second goal and came close through Dan, Liam and Ewan who were all denied by the defenders last ditch blocks. Southam defended well with Alfie, Luke and Dan clearing up any long balls in readiness for the next Southam attack. The second goal did eventually come after a well timed through ball from Sam found Ewan who calmly shot past the keeper into the bottom corner with 2 minutes to go. Southam held on to take the 3 points with a 2-1 win.
A fantastic performance from the year 7 team especially with the atrocious weather conditions.
Man of the match goes to Luke for a fantastic commanding performance at the heart of the defence.
A special thank you to Miss Parr and Mr Elkerton who both stayed and watched the game in its entirety despite the bad weather. Your support is very much appreciated.
Well done boys on a great win.
Mr Turton and Miss Oakley
