Tuesday evening saw the year 7 football team play their cup quarter final against Kenilworth. Southam started brightly and were passing the ball round with control and composure. The team created 3 fantastic chances with Leon, Sam and Tobias all going close and forcing the keeper into 3 good saves. Kenilworth grew into the game and started creating a few attacks but strong defending from Logan, Luke and Dan kept them at bay. Southam then scored three quick fire goals. The first came from a great cross from Sam to Liam who volleyed into the ground to send the ball into the net. Soon after the kick off, Tobias won the ball, fed Leon who passed to Liam who unleashed a great strike into the top corner. The third goal was a fantastic header from Ewan after a terrific corner from Logan. At this point Southam were passing the ball round with real flair and carved out 3 or 4 more brilliant chances but didn’t add any more goals. Half time score 3-0.
Southam were pegged back at the start of the second half and had to defend resolutely to keep Kenilworth from scoring. Good blocks from Dan and Luke prevented any score. Tobias was a constant threat with great running and forward passing but Southam were unable to score again. Kenilworth did get on the score sheet with 3 minutes to go, a long ball over the top was pulled back to the striker to tuck into the bottom corner. Final score 3-1 to Southam.
A fantastic performance with some really good football. Man of the match goes to Leon for tenacious running and intelligent defending. Well done boys on reaching the semi finals.
See you all at training on Monday.
