The Year 9 Rugby team were back with a bang after a few weeks off at the U14 Leamington Tournament.Starting off against Aylesford and North Leamington, we secured comfortable wins, dominating the possession and territory, with tries from Ioan E, Alfie M, Tyler A. and Jack C. We always knew the tough battles would be against Kineton and Kenilworth. Kineton came first and we really rose to the challenge, suffocating any of their possession, turning the ball over, and recycling our ball to pressuring their defence. Jack R. was on hand to burst through their line and score the decisive try.
Going into the final game against Kenilworth, we knew that a draw would be enough to win the tournament, as we were the only team with a 100% record, however, we didn’t want to sit back and gift possession against a dangerous attacking opposition. As a result, we carried on where we left off against Kineton, dominating possession and not giving their talented backline as chance to dictate the game. It was a very hard-fought game, with both sides threatening at times, but our line held strong, and as time was called, we were able to clear the ball, albeit on the second attempt (Cassidy’s hacked attempt aside), to claim a well-deserved victory.
Congratulations to all the team, and this sets up our game against Kenilworth on Saturday perfectly. We’ll need a full-strength team and the same levels of commitment then to maintain these high levels. Looking forward to it!
