Year 9 Rugby Southam V Kenilworth

Back to earth with a Bump!

It was a chastening morning for the Yr 9 Rugby team. After the highs of Thursday’s tournament victory, we faced a Kenilworth team out for revenge on their home turf.

The game started evenly with 2 well matched forward packs, but Kenilworth always had the territorial advantage, and eventually their pressure told as they crossed twice before the break.
Looking for a fast start to the second half, we again battled hard, but any progress we threatened was undermined time and again with unforced errors, poor handling and passing. Our chances of getting a foothold in the game were extinguished with injuries to the impressive Ben H and Alfie M., and then finally to team leader Ioan E..

Man of the Match, Jack R. continued to conquest at the breakdown, assisted by Max F. and Frank P., but their dangerous backline were getting too much ball and scored at will, running away with the game.
We did threaten their line at the death, but just as it looked as if we may eventually get on the scoresheet, Kenilworth intercepted to score a final try.

There is time to re-group and ‘lick our wounds’ from this experience before our next game on 4th Dec Vs Camp Hill. We’ll need a full team out for training next Thursday. Looking forward to seeing you all there.
