On Thursday afternoon the u13 girls team travelled to rural Derbyshire to play in the last 32 of the National Cup against De Ferrers School.
The game was played in bright sunshine on a boggy pitch but that didn’t deter the girls. The girls battled hard and great defending from Rosa, Edith and Sharon kept the score at 0-0. There were very few chances created in the first half but there were large passages of good football played by the determined Evie, Tammy, Eva and Connie with Grace working hard up front. 0-0 at half time.
The second half was much more open and both teams created chances. A fantastic double save from Frankie kept the score at 0-0. Southam were having to defend a lot in the second half with Bella and Bethany working really well on the right hand side. Southam left it late to grab a goal. A fantastic run from Bella allowed Eva to play a through ball to Evie who was composed and shot into the bottom corner to give Southam a 1-0 lead. Southam then defended superbly well for the last 4 minutes and held on for a 1-0 win.
Players of the match:
Frankie- a tremendous performance with some outstanding saves and great distribution.
