Year 9 Rugby – Southam V Princethorpe

The Yr 9 Rugby team played their first match of 2022 against Princethorpe College at Southam Rugby Club. Unfortunately, due to a couple of students letting the team down at the last minute, we only had 15 players, however, these players all committed 100% to the game.

It was a closely fought start, with our Forwards dominating the breakdown, but their Backs proving the more dangerous. Their territorial advantage began to pay off, and despite some fantastic defence, they crossed twice before the break, but didn’t manage to convert either try.

The second half started with great intensity, and some more direct running for our forwards began to pressure the Princethorpe line. Following a number of line busting runs from Ioan E., we got our breakthrough as Jack R. crashed over the line to score a well deserved try, that Adam C. calmly converted to bring us within one score and 3 points. Both teams continued to fight hard, and could have made a decisive score , but time eventually ran out.

I massive congratulation to all the team for a fantastic performance, and many thanks to Mr Elkerton for refereeing.
