Five Southam college students took a trip to Pingles Stadium on Thursday afternoon to compete in the second day of the Warwickshire combined events championships.
All 5 girls represented themselves and the school brilliantly and had a blast on a sunny day as the rain held off! Esme went into day 2 leading the group and demonstrated amazing performances combined with determination to maintain the lead going into the last event where she was able to hold off a rival in the 800m event as she picked up the gold medal at the end of the day. Isabelle put in some outstanding performances, also coming 1st overall with 2864 points and smashing some PBs. Xanthe, Bethan and Tilda competed in the minor girl’s competition and did themselves proud all day with some extremely impressive performances in the 80m sprint, 800m and the long jump but also gave the shot put a real good go! Bethan just missed out on the bronze medal, but everyone contributed to the team coming 5th out of 14 teams.
